Hindi Divas 2022: On September 14, National Hindi Day is celebrated all over the India. On 1949, India’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru decided to celebrate National Hindi Day on September 14 to promote, show respect towards Hindi language and its usage across the national and also the constituent Assembly declared Hindi as the official language of India.
On September 14, 1916 Beohar Rajendra Simha was born who played a crucial role in getting Hindi in the Devanagri script. After, Prime Minister of India Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru decided to commemorate this day as Hindi Day. Since then, September 14 is observed as Hindi Day in India. On September 14, 1953, first Hindi Day was celebrated.
On the occasion of National Hindi day, the government of India several departments (the central and state government, schools, colleges, and other education Institutions) organise various events like essay writing, poem writing, speech competition, drawing, and more for celebration.
According to article 343 of the constitution of India,” The official language of the union shall be Hindi in the Devanagri script.” The provision related to Hindi in the Devanagri script as the official language of India and on September 14, 1950, Hindi became the official language in India.
In India, Bihar became the first state who adopted Hindi language as its official state language. Following this, Hindi language also became the official language of other states, including Uttar Pradesh, Haryana & Rajasthan among others.
In 1881, Urdu replaced with Hindi. Hindi got its name from the Persian word. Hind meaning ‘land of the Indus River’. Letters of Hindi alphabet have their own independent and distinct sound. Hindi is not just a language but it is a symbol of national identity for over 130 crore Indians.
Hindi is also spoken in countries Mauritius, Fiji, Suriname, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, Nepal. Around 28,000 people are currently teaching Hindi language courses outside India. Among the world’s top 10 most-read newspapers, six are published in Hindi
In world, Hindi is one of the most spoken and written language and third most spoken language after Mandarin and English. After English, Hindi is the fastest-growing language. Hindi is the fourth most spoken language in the world after Mandarin Chinese, Spanish and English. In Business, Hindi is on the top most used languages. Hindi is quite popular in countries like- Fiji, New Zealand, Singapore, Mauritius, and others.
In 1900- 2021 – The number of Hindi-Speaking people increased by around 175 percent.
In 1900- Across the globe, Hindi became/ was the fourth most spoken and Mandarian, Spanish, and English were the first, second, and third most spoken languages.
In 2021- The number of Hindi speaking people increased by 64.6 crore.
On January 10, world Hindi Day is celebrated annually all over the world with an aim to promote the use of the Hindi language worldwide
